Hunter Schafer Is the New Face of Mugler’s Angel
by Verano Fragrance about 3 years ago
The French brand Mugler presented a collaboration with digital artist Marc Tudisco in the metaverse, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the release of Angel. Now, the fashion house has announced American model and actress Hunter Schafer as the face of the cult fragrance. The advertising campaign featuring the star of the HBO series "Euphoria" and focused on transformation was already released in March.
In the video for the song "Dreamer" by Charli XCX, Schafer transforms into a star, referencing the shape of the perfume bottle. The model is wearing a shiny jumpsuit based on Thierry Mugler's archival design, modified with the help of digital technology.

For this role, Hunter chose Casey Cadwallader, the creative director of Mugler. The model participated in the designer's show in 2021. According to Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum, the Global President of Mugler Fashion, Schafer has been a long-time friend of the brand. Lahana-Aidenbaum also added:
"She is the perfect face of Angel. Very modern, a true icon, determined, and talented."

Hunter Schafer has participated in shows for Dior, Marc Jacobs, Versace, JW Anderson, Miu Miu, Vera Wang, Rick Owens, Maison Margiela, and Helmut Lang. According to Hunter, she is constantly in search of and expressing femininity through art and fashion: "What I'm trying to do in every sense is deconstructing our understanding of gender and use the privileges that come with a model appearance to draw attention to this topic."

The young girl is not only pursuing a career as a model and actress, but also developing as an artist and designer. After receiving a grant from Teen Vogue's "21 Under 21" program, Schafer planned to open a gallery-studio for trans artists in Manhattan. She also intends to enrol at Central Saint Martins art college in London to focus on non-binary fashion design.
Hunter Schafer is also known as an LGBTQ+ activist. In 2017, Hunter was featured in Teen Vogue's "21 Under 21" list. Following that, several girls from the list, including Hunter, participated in a roundtable discussion with former U.S. senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, where Hunter raised the issue of the House Bill 2. The bill restricted the rights of the LGBTQ+ community by prohibiting transgender individuals from using the restroom, changing facilities, and other gender-specific spaces according to their own gender identity.

Angel is the first and most famous fragrance in Mugler's perfume portfolio, released in collaboration with the Clarins Group in 1992. The rich gourmet composition was created by perfumer Olivier Cresp. Angel became the first fragrance in the oriental-gourmand category, which later sparked a trend for desert-like, sweet compositions. The overdose of ethyl maltol, which contributed to Angel's distinctive character, solidified its position in the world of perfumery over the years. Over the course of thirty years, Angel has seen the release of approximately 50 limited and collector's editions, as well as various spin-off lines, including Angel Nova.
